Doo Wop Discussion #16: Pilgrim's Pride Motel
Nov 21st, 2007, 2:12pm

Pilgrim's Pride Motel

5209 New Jersey Ave.
Wildwood, NJ 08260
(p): (609) 729 - 1621

I won’t be around for the rest of the week due to the Thanksgiving holiday, so I figured I’d post this week’s ‘DWD’ now. And, while I’m at it, I decided to go with a ‘themed’ choice of sorts this week…  Wink

Soooo… the Pilgrim's Pride Motel… well, I don’t know too much about this place at all. But, perhaps we can learn a little more together…

- The Pilgrim's Pride is a fairly simple, two-story, linear structure that sits on the northeast corner of New Jersey & Hildreth Ave. All rooms face west.

- Location-wise, it is situated one block north of the Crest border. It is also likely one of the westernmost motels on the island. Other motels of note (though little fame) out in that area include the Holly Beach and the Key.

- The PP is situated next door to the Ravioli House, so patrons of that restaurant may recognize it from their visits there.

- The motel would probably fall into what the DWPL would classify as the ‘Phoney Colonee’ style category.

Anyone else have any other info or thoughts on this place? Has anyone else even heard of the Pilgrim’s Pride?   Huh

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!   Cheesy

Same here, Frank. Maybe the owners' ancestors came over on the Mayflower or something?  Huh

This place has always amused me, though. It's one of those motels that I very rarely even think about, until I happen to pass by it.

When I saw the thread title, I realized that's where Al got his previous avatar from.  I don't remember - is the pilgrim on the Motel's sign?

Nothing to add except I like the theme.  How cool that Wildwood has a motel for specific holidays!

Wildwood does have a Christmas store but I don't think there's quite enough history there yet.

Winterwood?  Not a lot of history there, but before it was Winterwood it was a chicken place that was owned by Angelo Graiffe (Angelo Jr., that is, of Cape Cod Inn fame).  Not sure what it was before then.  Ummmm.... Al? Wink

Was it a chicken place or more of a B-B-Q place?

That's great info, Rob; I did know that Winterwood was a restaurant previously, but had no idea what type, or the fact that it was owned by Angelo, Jr. from the Cape Cod. Very cool!

I'm going to try to find out some more info on this place, specifically, next time I hit the Boyer.

On the topic of places that are gone, is the building across the street from the splash zone still an ice cream place. I remember when it was Jennifer's, I have no idea what its called now. Banana's?

It is still called Banana's. I've only been there once.

What was Jennifer's, Hulk? Was it a restaurant? The building is obviously old, I figured it formerly served as a hotel/rooming house/bed n' breakfast-type of place at one time, but I don't know much about the history of the place...
