I'm just wondering what kind of structural issues could plague a two-story building.
By "infrastructure" I meant not so much physical structure as building systems, in other words, plumbing and wiring, which was clearly what my contact was referring to. Maybe heating; I don't know whether it has any.
I went back to refresh myself about the comments I vaguely recalled from the old forum. writhinganacondo said:

Too bad about its condition, if you look at the early photos the design was among the best on the island. An ideal place to save, but would probably be too much $$$...its not all about just changing the interiors. In its prime it was owned by ex-mayor Charles Masciarella.

I understand she has been trying to sell it since the day she bought it, so no surprise there

... and Al said something similar around that same time (fall '06). There was also a lot of discussion about the motel's blistering reviews on Trip Advisor. Robert wrote:

On Trip Advisor every person gave it the lowest review, saying the owner was a witch and that the motel was dirty, filthy.

Of course, "filthy" doesn't necessarily imply lost-cause status.
What thelastresort heard about the owner trying to flip it immediately may have stuck with me more than anything else. There could be a lot of reasons for that but I can't help wondering if she made some really unpleasant discovery about the underlying condition of the property after the sale went through and she began to operate it.
