The Bevans House on 1st Avenue.

In a recent discussion we were talking about the "million dollar house" at 1Ave and Atlantic, which is supposed to be demolished soon.
Here's the article from the Sun-By-The-Sea...

Wow, what a story. This certainly adds to the mystique of North Wildwood for me. Thanks for posting, Sylvie!

good story.. I heard that the city is buying it from the present owner (relative of the original owner and on the board of directors of NWW) so that it will stay as it is..

No, unfortunately, they want to tear it down. Apparently, the owner doesn't have the money to pay the inheritance tax, since he was not a family member. So he's counting on that million to pay the tax, and build himself a new house. After all, he has 2 kids and the house only has 1 bedroom. He'll be able to keep the front part (closest to the street) of the lot, and the rest will go to that land conservation thing.
I should post the links to the other articles I found...  Wink

Quite an interesting saga!!!
Especially in my case, since me and my mom had an eye on that house since 1995.  undecided

I noticed some new titles in my feed from Al's blog today, went to see what had prompted them, and learned that this sad saga unfortunately has ended as Sylvie expected. The house has been destroyed.

Anybody have an update on the backstory?
