I've been going to Wildwood since I was about 1.  We use to camp at Lake Gloria every summer.  I didn't start staying at hotels/motels until 1992 and stayed at the Rio until they knocked it down.  I stayed at the Packard for a year and have been going to the Tropican ever since.

Oh funny... I just finished going through your compilation (nice job! aren't we impressive?) and I thought, how come no multiples for the I500, and then smacked myself in the head. Yes, I did forget to list that one. Shame on me!  cry  Certainly deserved mention. (Thanks for correcting my senior moment. Cool)

The first place I stayed at, I can't remember the name of it.
Maybe someone here can help me out with this one. It was on Atlantic, near Roberts, right next door to the liquor store. The place had 3 separate buildings. The main one next to the liquor store with regular motel rooms and there was a deck on the second floor, over looking Atlantic. On the left side of that building was a big house where the 2 owners lived. 2 old ladies, one of them named Gertrude. Next to the house was 2 apartment type units, and on Roberts Ave. itself was a duplex with 2 more, bigger apartments.
This was in the early 90's.

Oh, god. Is it just my jittery imagination, or is this bus headed for the Patio Motel? Please, Al, don't wreck a great thread...  Grin Grin Cool

Haha, nooooooo, not a Patio Motel reference!  Grin

But, on the "Underwood" question, I'm legitimately curious. I talked to Bob Bright a while back about the "phenomenon" of daytrippers coming down and - after either not wanting to pay or not having the money to pay for a m/hotel room, finding a spot to rest for the night under the Boardwalk.

Granted, this is something that probably happened with much greater frequency during the Depression era and into the 40s. But, I do know some people who have done it, or at least claim to have "checked in" down below in more recent years.

Can't believe my synapses didn't fire on "Underwood." Too funny. A very interesting question... Love to be able to claim that badge, kind of like the Mile High Club, but no, no such adventures for me.

Edit: On further consideration, seems to me we might not be headed for the Patio here but we're at least passing through the neighborhood.  Grin  Smiley

Just keep your windows rolled up, doors locked, and don't stop for the red lights. We'll be fine.  Wink

Binns Hotel (1960) What a place back in the day! A real traditional hotel.
Silver Beach... Run by the Bianchi Family...terrific! gone to Doo Wop Heaven.
The Blue Marlin.. Nice place
Jolly Roger...nice place
The Adventurer,,very good
Heart of Wildwood...owners very strict..also parking is real tight..it's car door ding heaven.
Sea and Sand..ok
Cardinal Very well run.Great operation in N Wildwood.
Lau Ray The little place on 26th st that was torn down..really terrific..but lost to speculators..one of the very early 50's originals often overlooked by history.
Frederick Inn Apts..Same original owners of Lau Ray..an A plus place to stay for a Wildwood Fanatic!!! Cool

I really loved all these places!!!

I like that you commented on what you thought of each place. I always thought The Carninal was cool. Never stayed there but it always caught my eye.

And yes ive heard about the Heart Of Wildwood parking issues. Its a great location but i think i would stay away because of that.
