Is it locals only or do people come from all over?

Ah the BBQ festival!  Fantastic...

This will be the third year I'll be in WW for the festival.  It's typically the weekend after Fourth of July, which also happens to be around my mother's birthday.  Two years ago, I suggested that my parents and I meet in WW rather than them come to DC to visit me (where it'll be humid, miserable, and less to do... we'd rather be on a beach).  Just so happened it was the same weekend as the BBQ fest, which we visited.

Tons of vendors, great, GREAT food... arrive hungry, you won't be disappointed.  Plenty of places with ribs, brisket, chicken, pork sandwiches, corn, various desserts, all sorts of fantastic food.  It's best to time it right because the place can get crowded and the lines can get long, but it's managed as well as it can be.

One section, closer to the shore, in a big parking lot, is the competition.  Not much to see there really... you can't eat any of what's cooking, so you're just torturing your senses by walking through Smiley

And the music... they always have great blues music, and announce the acts ahead of time.  There was a Blues Brothers tribute band last year (featuring at least one member of the actual band, I think, forget who...), but it was supposed to rain that night, so we ended up going a different night.  The music's great, and there's plenty of space to hang out, drink (I've got a matching set of four BBQ fest cups in my apartment, haha), and eat really good barbecue.

In short, it started as an event that happened to be going on when I was there... now I plan to be there that weekend.

I'd be interested to know how much bbq'ed meat one could possibly knock back especially on a hot day.

Cool

I try to find out that amount every year, much to the surprise of my family.  They think I have a hollow leg or something.

I will say, though, something that is nice and that I recommend... a lot of the stands will offer smaller portions (like 3 ribs, for example, something more of a sample size).  I always start out doing that, just so I can try a lot more and not be as full.

And of course to make room for the beer, too  Cool

I'm going to try and get down for this. The 3 ribs size sounds perfect.
