Favorite Sign Shots
Jul 4th, 2011, 5:37pm

As mentioned in my post to this section earlier, I was thinking it might be fun to start a chain of our favorite personal or found photos of signage in the Wildwoods, present or past. But I didn't craft that post in a way that would support the idea so I deleted it and made this one instead.  Cool

Here's my photo again, to act as a seed, I hope…

Very nice photo. It looks like the sign is floating in the sky.

A great idea for a thread, and that is a beautiful shot, Kathi.

Like Hulk said, because you can't see the support structure, it appears that the Adventurer sign is just sort of hovering in the air, rising above the Windward's roofline. I always liked the Adventurer's neon, but it wasn't until I stayed at the Rus-Mar three or four years ago that I gained a real appreciation for it. I now kind of view it as a "sentinel" icon along Ocean Ave., keeping watch at the Wildwood / Wildwood Crest border.

I just quickly flipped through a folder of my sign images, and this one has always been a personal favorite. I'm sure I've posted it before; actually, I believe I used it as my avatar on the old forum for a while. A fairly basic shot, but one that eluded me for a while. It seemed that my initial attempts to properly photograph this sign were always ruined, either by lousy exposure or the sign not working properly.

Was able to snap this one on a very hot late August 2005 night in Downtown Wildwood...

Wonderful additions today. Thanks for playing Al, Martin and Tech—pleased you liked the idea. Frank, don't you have some too? I seem to remember a conversation about your Sony digital with some examples of its very nice image quality?

Al, I always liked that sign as your avatar. Great sign, great photo… Tech, your "eye" is as distinctive as your posts.  Cool All really interesting images but that b/w one from the south end of the boards is still a favorite… And Martin, of course—always classic! Smiley Gonna start plowing through mine tonight to pick out a few more. I've piled up a ton of sign shots since going digital, because I've been kind of obsessed with signs, logos and lettering since way back when I was a kid inscribing banner plane slogans in the sand with a razor clam shell…
