The Island's Coming Alive ("When does ____ open?")
Mar 27th, 2013, 12:24pm

With the board starting to come to life just as Wildwood is, and with the recent topics around there, I figured this would be a good place for people to ask when things open, or report what's open when they visit in what's getting to be the spring shoulder season.

First one of importance to me... Russo's? Last year, they weren't open yet for my May trip, but I think Memorial Day weekend is their first signs of life... hopefully they do a little earlier this year... need my cheesesteak fix...

I noticed that also, I never realized Groff's takes down all its outdoor signage in the winter.

Apparently there's gonna be a Verizon cell phone outlet on the boards. Shocked

Odd choice if you ask me.

Replaces one of the .99 cent stores.

Agreed.

I've got no problem with them adding a Verizon store, but I'd figure it'd be better as a stand-alone store elsewhere in the city.  Or even as a store within the Boardwalk Mall.

Having a .99 store is preferable.

I don't think having a Verizon storefront on the Boardwalk is a good idea at all.  Adding more stores that you can find anywhere does not help to make and keep the Boardwalk a destination.  That's not to say that every place that exists or existed there did either, but when I think Wildwood I don't think national chains, and not having that much of that element on the island is part of what makes it so great.

Yeah, I don't think it's that much of a problem either. I don't think it's going to lead to an influx of that either. And maybe I'm weird, but I didn't even know that it was once a 99 cent store, so I didn't have the same attachment. To me, having a national brand is no different than some of the other well-known brands being on the Boardwalk. We've had Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, Subway (granted off the BW), Stewart's is semi-national... and they haven't led to anything of a drastic change.

Have nothing against dollar stores, but they seem to be everywhere these days. Yeah, the boardwalk seems like an odd place for a Verizon store, but if they can afford to pay "the rent" it's a lot better than a boardwalk vacancy.     George
