Lights, Camera, Action, Doo Wop!

The Doo Wop capital of the world can now boast about its new exposure on the national cable television series, Trading Spaces. The Learning Channel paid a visit to the Wildwoods and Cool Scoops Ice Cream Parlor to film its special Doo Wop episode in June 2006. Wildwood, the home of historic mid-century architecture was a great location for this popular reality show. The cast for this episode featured the Russo Family, owners of Cool Scoops.

Paul and Lori Russo and their children answered an ad in the local paper to become cast members for this episode. The producers of Trading Spaces loved the opportunity to use Cool Scoops, a 1950’s Style Ice Cream Parlor, as the perfect backdrop to film the show. The episode consisted of two designers who worked with the Russo’s to create two Doo Wop themed rooms in the family home above the ice cream parlor. It was parents verses the children as the designers helped the parents create a 50’s style room and the children design a 60’s room. The Doo Wop Preservation League’s book, “How to Doo Wop”, and the Wildwoods famous Jetsonian design features were the driving force behind the designs.

After two days of creativity and hard work, the family was reunited to reveal each recreated room. The use of Doo Wop design features in an actual 50’s building was a surprise to everyone involved. The designers hit the nail on the head by giving these two guest rooms a Doo Wop facelift. This episode aired nationally four times on the TLC and is due to rerun many times throughout the next two years. The Russo’s, now local celebrities, received many e-mails and phone calls from all over the country regarding the episode. This family loves every chance to help promote tourism and would Trade Spaces again if the opportunity arises.

Check TLC and your local listing for future reruns. If you still missed this episode visit www.coolscoops.com and click on the Trading Spaces link to view the entire show and relive all the fun.
