The Adventure pier will be changing soon. The boat tag, front two kiosks, and Kohr's will be knocked down. They will be replaced with a new food hall. Here is an article on the upgrade.
the boat tag... moreys has enough space in the back or maybe the old hunts pier behind capt jacks, to relocate it if they want. I get that that it had a special environmental aura to it.. but I imagine as a pier owner moreys things "thats a heck of a lot of prime space allocated to that attractin for a handfull of people to use per hour"
You're right frank that's one of those classic boardwalk sounds. I don't know of any other boardwalk in NJ where there is still boat tag. I'm pretty sure there was one in Seaside years ago but if so it's long gone now.
I'm excited about the new development with Adventure Pier being revamped and the new hotel being built at the Grandview. I love the honky tonk of the boardwalk but some areas have a little too much, um, tonk. New hotels coming to the island are an exciting development and will help make up for some of the rooms, and life, lost to condomania.
Don't forget the new convention center host hotel that is making progress too with the developer selection for the RFP. That whole area can be revitalized soon.
We have a place in the Crest just three blocks from the end of the boards. I am a fan of this project. Overall there is really nothing to bring people down the south end. Sure the Convention Center (for those attending an event).. but the pier has one key draw in the Great White and beyond that... I bet there are a lot of people from the Northern half of the island who just never come down this far. the adventure pier plans should pull people down to check it out, hang, eat, drink. and maybe that will spur more development in the stores in that area.and since I am in the Crest, it would be great to have this the eating and drinking option.
I agree I am not a big fun of more alcohol on the boardwalk, just look at ocean city Maryland and the issues they have, its been a mess at ocean city so far this year. I take it boat tag will be removed, dang shame I enjoyed playing.
I'm not a big fan of this. Bringing more alcohol to the boards takes away from the family environment (and I don't even have kids) . I will be super bummed if the water tank game is eliminated too. More food on the board can also hurt businesses off the board.
I'm guessing the Great White won't be open this Summer then, that's quite a bummer.
Adventure Pier has always been the black sheep, personally I don't think this is going to help nor would it attract me there. It would have been neat to see some new dark rides or something different but that's just my opinion. I'm also not a fan of adding more and more alcohol to the boardwalk. It's sad that seems to be the only thing people care about anymore. That being said The Morey's haven't done anything I haven't liked yet so I'll wait for the project to be completed before being a total Debbie Downer.
Has anyone ever had the opportunity to go into the boats? I imagine it's quite cramped in there.

Its a shame. The boat tag has been there for quite a long time. and Ill miss the sound of the air powered tennis ball cannons firing off.

yes! and the Oceanic has a big remodel and expansion coming. We'll have to wait and see how Covid impacts all of these projects
The new boardwalk hotel at the Grandview location should pull more people to the area too.

Boat Tag has been rumored to be on the chopping block for years.
I'm a fan of this. The front of the pier isn't very welcoming, and it's obvious the food trucks have been a hit. Why not build upon that concept?

I saw that. The pier will be closed this season to renovate
