Crest Fishing Pier Expansion

in General Discussions

It looks like Wildwood Crest is planning to move forward with an expansion/raising of the fishing pier to make it a destination and useable for fishing again. There was an article on the Cape May County Herald.

The Wildwood Crest website also had a picture of the planned changes.

This will be a big change to the beach if they get the funding.

That would be great if the fishing pier were extended to once again go out over the water. I love that pier. Such a great perspective from there. Thanks Wildwoodfan for mentioning the WWC Website. It had been some time since I last looked at it and it has changed since then. I also found great info for improvement of the playground area down by the bike rental by the oceanview. There was also extensive info on all the proposals for replacement of The Middle and Lower Thorofare bridges. Very interesting......Warren

glad to hear that this is being done. going to be nice for romantic walks. not a fan of fishing at all but I look at it as more than just a "fishing pier"

Our "home" at the Pan American is adjacent to the pier so this would bring a big change to the view from my balcony, and to me it sounds like a great idea. A pier should be over the water and the current setup is difficult to navigate. Think of the even greater views you could get looking down the beach over the waves. What I'm a little concerned about is the Army Corp dune project. All the beaches up here have had work done by the Army Corps and it was needed as our beaches were horribly eroded and susceptible to hurricane and nor'easters, the beach in Wildwood is a different story. I really hope they do not ruin the gentle slope going into the ocean with their sand harvesting. It will flatten out again but it could mean a year or two of some rough surf and deep water which people are not used to down there.
