My family and I stayed at the OH for a reunion a few years ago. Before moving across the street to the Bristol Plaza, we used to spend a week there over the summer. Coming back, we were very surprised at how down hill the motel had become. While it wasn't the worst place I've ever stayed, you could definitely tell that there was no longer any care put into the place. I'm really glad it won't be turning into a condo and am hoping that the new owners can really improve what was once a very nice place to stay.
I had no connection to the Ocean Holiday and never thought of it as a noteworthy example of a Doo Wop motel, so I think this is a good thing. The Icona owners know what they're doing and investing in Wildwood will most definitely be a positive.
We stayed at Ocean Holiday for a week in August every year from 1986 to 2001. We felt that the place was going downhill back then and we were outgrowing our room there anyway. Usually stayed in room 215. We obviously have many good memories from there like son's first Wildwood vacation and others. I hope that it remains recognizable but I know I'll miss the neon. The drive down Ocean ave. is different every year.
it makes me sad- I stay at the Shalimar across the street and I always enjoyed looking at the Ocean Holiday- always liked the sign and color scheme. I hope the Icona doesn't make it generic looking. Hoping for a bit of Doo-Wop theme especially since it's deep in the Crest. But, I'll easily take that over condos- I would have been crushed seeing condos across the street.
I'm going to remain optimistic about the work being done, I realize the new owners are not going for any sort of Doo-Wop look or anything but is they can at least be convinced to get some cool signage that would be great. If the theme is Hawaiin or whatever that technically does fit into a genre of lodging that we have lost many great examples of over the years. Anyway, the fact the property is remaining a hotel is great news worth celebrating.

Mixed feelings on this. Overall, its positive outcome
