So my family and I went down to Wildwood this weekend so that my son could work at Mariner's Arcade on Saturday and Sunday. The weather was great and we had a nice time, but the unsanctioned H2O car event put a blemish on the trip. There were endless kids with loud obnoxious cars driving up and down Atlantic and Ocean avenues making noise and looking for trouble. Unfortunately, a couple of people were killed in one of the accidents caused by these reckless kids. It seemed like every obnoxious kid with a loud car converged onto Wildwood and the police were not prepared to handle it. Luckily, the boardwalk was fairly peaceful because they all stayed on the streets and parking lots. Here are a few pictures and observations from the trip.
A new game in Ed's Funcade south.
The Olympic Flame won the 2022 Best Slice award from the Pizza Tour guys. I had their pizza before and wasn't that impressed, so I stuck with Mack's on this trip...and it was delicious like always.
The new Family Dollar is open on Robert's Ae. This used to be a Rite Aide way back when.
This gift store looked like they got some new lights/signs or something...because it looked different to me.
Karma also got some new inserts for their florescent signs.
Speaking of signs, parts of the Coca Cola neon was out again.
Occasionally a cop would manage to pull over one of the road warriors.
On Saturday we had dinner at Schellenger's Restaurant for dinner....it was very good.
Also happening on the island this weekend was a normal car show along Pacific Avenue and the Irish Festival....but those events were overshadowed by the H2O road warriors. Hopefully they manage to keep them off the island next year. We'll be back in two weeks for Columbus Day weekend to close out the season. Hopefully the weather will be as nice.
Great report and trip as always. Excellent job documenting the changes and differences, whether big or small. The Family Dollar was rapidly being worked on when I was down there the end of August- so much happened in the span of 5 days. Same with the Sinclair gas station. Very glad that the former Rite Aid is still a store- and not more boring condos. Shame about the Coca Cola sign! A highlight of the boardwalk, one would think it'd be taken care of better. Looking forward to the Columbus Day report.
Enjoyed your pics and report as always......Warren
It is really sad that people feel they can come into a town and just do whatever they want to without and regard anyone else's safety or desire to have a good time. Glad you made the best of it and I am sure it will be better when you return Columbus Day weekend.
we were there with one of our cars from the 21st to the 25th. The H20 idiots really screwed everything up.. bad. We had our car in the convention center thank goodness. way from the trouble. Stayed at the Crusader. A wonderful hotel. Very clean, very nice people who ran it. We liked it so much we made reservations for next September.Always loved the crusader all my life and finally got to stay there. Glad we did.
