Oceanview Motel to become condos

in General Discussions

I saw this posted just today, it looks like the Oceanview was sold and will be undergoing a condo conversion. The new owner apparently plans to demolish the historic lobby. Based on what Joey said in the video the architect and the new owner weren’t really aware of its significance and there may be time to have it saved with enough public input.

There was a room on the third floor that wasn't too shabby.

It must be nice to be so close to be able to be right on the spot and be able to check things out almost as they happen. When we retire to Ocean County in the near future day trips will become a regular thing and I can't wait.

The owners have been just running that place into the ground waiting for a big payday for years. Looking at the room photos I can't believe people stayed there as it wasn't even all that cheap either.

Thanks for the pictures Joey. I couldn't see this from the Admiral web cam across the street. Looks like the it just rotted out and couldn't handle the snow after years of neglect. Very sad and lets hope the structure of the lobby is not in the same sad shape. By the way I always enjoy your videos!

It is really sad how little they cared about somethng so precious, that's a privilege to own.

I never stayed there before but I did stay at the Singapore once and if the owners treated that place the same way than I can't say I'm surprised. I'm not sure the extent of the damage but I think it happened during the first bad storm down there last week.

Meeting time may be changed. But, wow! The roof thing! And I was there a few times taking photos!

I didn't hear that but it doesn't surprise me. The people that ran the Oceanview down did the same thing to the Singapore. Maybe the snow had an effect?

Did anyone see that there was some kind of collapse to the building this week? Apparently, it has been severely let go by its former owners and is in need of repair. There was a video posted on facebook, and I can't tell the extent of the damage, but it looks like either the siding of the roof.

Thanks for the link and this is a very interesting video. I think it would be a very big shame if the lobby were lost as it is so mid century. It's almost criminal the way that place was allowed to deteriorate the last 15 years or so, it really looked bad when I walked past it a couple of times this year. I stayed there a couple of times when I was about 6 or 7 years old in the late 1960's and it was a beautiful place! My parents had a post card of it from that time and I wish I still had it.
